Position Profile:
The Audit Specialist conducts risk based internal audits and consulting engagements for the Department of Transportation.
This position may also conduct audits of private organizations and local governments that have agreements with the Department. Working in the Internal Audit Office, this position provides an independent and objective service that will help management evaluate and improve internal control, risk management, and the internal governance process. This position requires some travel throughout Washington State. While this travel can often be accomplished through day trips, some assignments do require overnight stays.
The successful candidate will have the following:
Oral & written communication skills.
Ability to obtain & analyze complex financial, legal, and operational information, using various computer hardware and software.
Willing to travel to all areas of Washington State, and at times out of state, remain overnight in vicinity of audit for up to five consecutive days or longer. Arrange for transporting of equipment and other items for work while in travel status.
Knowledge of principles & methods effective internal control.
Ability to obtain or currently have a valid Washington State Driver's License.
Desired qualifications include:
A bachelor's degree in accounting, business or public administration, economics, computer science, or closely related field. At least 10 semester or 15 quarter hours of accounting courses.
At least two years of professional experience in accounting, auditing, finance, banking, investigation, retail management, or other related experience,
One year of auditing experience.
Certified Public Accountant Certified Internal Auditor, Certified Information System Auditor, or Certified Fraud Examiner.
Compensation: $28,296 - $51,780 annually depending on qualifications.
