Job Description

The Birmingham Tax practice delivers high-quality tax consulting and compliance services for businesses in a wide range of industries including consumer and industrial products, pharmaceuticals, retail, educational institutions, and many well-known clients in technology, communications and the entertainment sector. Candidates are detail oriented and possess strong organizational skills to excel in a deadline driven environment. This position involves advising large corporate companies on the US tax implications of their operations and recommending beneficial tax minimization strategies where appropriate. There will be opportunities to concentrate your efforts on a variety of tax issues and clients. As a member of our tax practice, you will be involved in significant tax compliance and planning issues with primary responsibility for reviewing the team of associates involved with the preparation of corporate tax returns. You will be accountable for researching tax issues, writing memos and performing numerical analysis to support the research and business recommendations to the client. The technical tax issues you will address include: sub-chapter C, K and S, consolidated returns, international and individuals. In addition, you will begin to develop your supervision skills and manage compliance projects, including tax returns, tax provisions and year-end planning projects. You will be expected to develop and maintain strong client relationships.

Bachelor's degree in Accounting required, must be eligible to sit for the CPA. JD or Masters in Tax degree preferred.

Job Requirement Essential
3-5 years experience preparing and reviewing tax returns, including accounting and tax issues and understanding the broad financial context under which the client operates.
Strong PC skills, i.e., MS Office is required, as well as previous experience with Fast Tax and other tax return processing systems a plus. Strong interpersonal skills as Sr. Associates are responsible for supervising & mentoring staff members. A strong technical tax background as a result of at least 3 full years of experience. The ideal candidate will have experience in a public accounting firm or Big 4 environment. Should demonstrate the ability to identify tax consulting opportunities and be willing to aggressively market services to existing and prospective clients. Client service orientation combined with staff development, creative problem solving skills, strong written and verbal communication skills are required.
Prior FAS 109, public and/or private corporate filing, research, compliance, and general tax filing experience.
