Environment Specialist
Production Technologies provides application development and support, and project and data resource management for a wide spectrum of Countrywide clients with primary focus on loan origination systems. Applications developed by Production Technologies have critical impact on the number of loans funded, compliance with state and federal regulations, and the overall ability of the company to maintain/improve its position in the marketplace.
Under moderate supervision, the Environments Engineer I provides server, PC, LAN, WAN, peripheral and portable hardware support to one or more of the following areas: ADVANTedge POC lab, ADVANTedge QA staff at multiple locations, B2C development and/or the Central Services development area.
Primary responsibilities include:
- Building, configuring and testing servers, workstations, and laptop hardware for development test environments and various QA staff.
- Determining problem sources, and resolving hardware/system issues with appropriate development staff.
- May support PT staff with PC and networking related issues as time permits.
- Builds, configures, installs and tests application servers, branch file servers, workstations, and laptop hardware for QA, development and all test environments at multiple locations.
- May also be responsible for these environments in the ADVANTedge POC lab.
- Sets up test environments for Production Technologies. May perform same function for other groups (SI, NPD, NCC, etc.) as required. Test environments change with strict time restrictions for every release and often several times during the life of a release cycle.
- Researches and resolves issues using acquired knowledge and skills or by liaising with internal and/or external sources (Internet, etc.), often under the pressure of strict time pressures. Confers with internal PT and/or external departments to resolve issues. Refers problems outside the scope of ability/responsibility to Senior Environments Engineer (if available)/Manager or related Countrywide Central IT departments.
- Analyzes user issues to determine possible problem sources. Sources can include custom software issues, WAN/LAN issues, server/hardware issues, configuration issues, etc.
- Receives incoming calls from testers who are experiencing hardware and/or software related difficulties.
- May provide on-call support as needed.
- Participates in systems or hardware related projects as assigned by the Environments/QA Manager.
- May travel to other locations to assist in hardware installation or problem resolution.
- Ensures that Corporate standards are adhered to in all aspects of hardware configuration/installation.
A successful candidate will have:
- HS Diploma or equivalent.
- 1 - 3 years experience in network administration, server administration and workstation configuration.
- Knowledge of processes and procedures involved in diagnosing and resolving server/workstation issues in a client/server environment.
- Solid knowledge of Windows 2000, Windows NT, Windows 9x, Microsoft Office Suite, Internet Explorer, Token Ring and Ethernet LANs.
- Knowledge of TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS, WINS.5. Familiarity with LAN network cabling.6. Analytical skills sufficient to determine the source of problems and provide resolution.
- Oral and written communication skills sufficient to communicate with others of varying technical abilities at all levels within the company.
- Ability to act individually and as a team member in resolving problems and completing projects.
- Customer service attitude sufficient to deal with users who are often frustrated and upset with a positive and helpful attitude.
- Ability to work under the constraints of strict deadlines and time pressures.
- Strong organization skills and ability to multi-task.
An ideal candidate may also possess:
- Completion of Microsoft coursework or training.
