Project Manager, Lean

Position Summary
The Logistic Projects Manager has the physical distribution responsibility for a limited number of warehouses in one or more regions. This position manages the modification or expansion of existing facilities relying on the expertise and direction of the Senior Logistic Projects Manager(s) or Division Logistics Projects Manager as projects might require. Lean and Six Sigma training would be beneficial.

Position Responsibilities


Plans and supervises the modifications or expansions of existing facilities.

Develops bid packages and negotiates with contractors and equipment suppliers. Includes AFE tracking, release of purchase orders, and follow-up on purchases. Physical monitoring of the facility capital expenditures and progress during development. Profiles new facilities for appropriate space utilization.

Participates in productivity and process improvement projects both of a general and specific location nature relying upon Lean and Six Sigma methodologies.

Assists the Senior Logistics Projects Manager(s) in the design, procurement, and construction of new and expanding facilities. This includes supervision of drawings, schedules, and construction progress.

Associate is given location construction and productivity objectives and must be able to carry out and complete the tasks timely and professionally.

The complex problems encountered at this level have confusingly interrelated parts and may be difficult to understand, explain, or solve.

Analysis of data involves defining problems, working with incomplete data, and interpreting information where the outcomes are not obvious. Techniques are used which require thorough knowledge of the field of work.

Resulting decisions may have high impact, affecting many people or organizations, senior managers, personnel actions, or expenditures.

The work requires the application of a broad knowledge of company policies and procedures to solve problems and interpret information. Many of the work performed, in addition to regular activities, is in response to assignments, projects, and inquiries.

Tasks are complex, requiring interpreting considerable data, planning the work, and selecting the approaches or procedures to be use. Instructions may not always be available and may have to be requested. The unstructured nature of much of the work requires planning and ordering the work and choosing a course of action from among many alternatives.

Often involved with independently changing existing work procedures or designing and implementing new work procedures affecting groups of people in one or more work areas.

Interacts frequently with people at all levels, including senior executives, inside and outside the company. Information exchanged may involve sensitive or confidential data requiring a depth of understanding of issues, extensive knowledge, sensitivity to power relationships, and the ability to influence others.

College degree in engineering or related field or equivalent technical experience
Broad knowledge of construction and design; typically requires experience of a minimum of five years in a related field
Job related experience in project management is a plus
Proficient editing skills for content as well as proper punctuation, spelling, and grammar
Travel is required
