Diversity Statement Job # 06-106 Duties and Responsibilities DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION INCLUDE: Under the direction of the Supervisor, Networks and Telecommunications, the Senior Systems & Network Programmer applies advanced skill and knowledge of complex network protocols and knowledge of multiple operating systems in gathering, analyzing, synthesizing, planning and designing unique and original solutions for integrating networks and/or updating existing and new systems. Serves as project leader. Regularly evaluate new and emerging technology and apply to innovative network solutions in the context of institutional needs. Resolve the most complex network problems. Evaluate complex network performance analysis and recommend appropriate action to supervisor. Act as technical liaison for network product or system vendors. Install, support, maintain and program networks for the District. Research and perform analysis to identify system expansions to meet anticipated future requirements. Install, configure and maintain network software including network monitoring and security software. Install, configure and maintain software for routers, bridges, switches and other network devices. Develop original solutions for inter/intra operability network maintenance. Communicate with outside organizations regarding computer maintenance, materials and product capabilities. Research and recommend new architecture of networks and security for maximum technical advantage. Perform related duties as assigned. Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Understanding of, sensitivity to, and respect for the diverse academic, socio-economic, ethnic, cultural, disability, religious background and sexual orientation of community college students, faculty and staff. 2. Any combination equivalent to a Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field. 3. Five years experience in network design development and support, computer programming, and computer systems responsibilities. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Knowledge of the technical aspects of systems and networks. Specifically, Ethernet, switching, TCP/IP addressing and routing. 2. Ability to design, develop and implement solutions for large networks. 3. Ability to design, develop and implement security solutions. 4. Ability to effectively use interpersonal skills with tact, patience and courtesy. 5. Ability to apply independent technical judgment to complex technical situations. 6. Ability to coordinate schedules and resources with systems and network programmers and users. 7. Ability to apply extensive application of knowledge in integrating network protocols to complex solutions and understanding relationships between applications. 8. Ability to operate computers and peripheral equipment properly and efficiently. 9. Ability to diagnose and understand reasons for network system failures. 10. Ability to demonstrate working knowledge of the principles, practices and techniques of data base structures and computer programming. 11. Ability to maintain current knowledge of technological advances in the field. 12. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. 13. Ability to maintain records and prepare reports. 14. Ability to prioritize and schedule work. 15. Ability to analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action. 16.
