Senior Scientist, Information Visualization

Pioneer development of new & innovative information visualization systems



THE COMPANY: Our client is a rapidly growing systems and technology company that provides research, modeling and engineering services to U.S. Government customers with advanced research and development missions. One of the firm's highest priorities is the addition of a Senior Visualization Scientist capable of developing a new suite of information visualization tools that will enable military analysts to visualize multiple data sets in ways that enhance situational awareness.





THE POSITION:


The Senior Scientist will REPRESENT DATA IN WAYS THAT HAVE NOT BEEN THOUGHT OF BEFORE and will play a major role in the conceptualization, design and implementation of a new generation of information visualization and interpretation systems.

These systems will offer multi-format displays that combine visual analytics, state-of-the-art computer graphics, multiple data models, and interactive animations to better visualize complex military, social, and economic forces.

The systems under development are intended to manage, link and facilitate interaction between data models from multiple sources and to present the resulting data in formats that are intuitive to users.

These visualizations will allow users to define new models and views "on the fly" in response to changing conditions and will enable users to reach into the underlying models to give them meaning.

The interactive, two-way nature of these visualizations will allow users to model "possible futures" based on "what-if" or "if-then" scenarios and will feature output and input mechanisms that provide intelligent access to underlying data models to facilitate exploration of leverage points.

The position involves close interaction with corporate team members who represent some of the leading and most innovative developers of 3D graphics tool kits and command, control, and decision support systems.

The visualization scientist's work will be evaluated, and if successful, used by some of the country's most senior military and government leaders.





THE CANDIDATE:


The ideal candidate will be a creative, hands-on problem solver with direct experience developing complex defense or intelligence-related visualization systems that have facilitated situation awareness and/or decision-making.

He/she should be particularly adept at developing leading edge techniques for VISUALIZATION OF DATA DERIVED FROM MULTIPLE SOURCES including geo-spatial, temporal, diagrammatic, graphical and native data views.

The candidate must be willing to "do what it takes" to solve problems, including hands-on coding of the algorithms and software required for dynamic construction of visualizations,

The candidate must possess strong hands-on programming skills and a history of success developing products that have "pushed the envelope" in the information visualization arena.





EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:


The preferred candidate will possess a BS in Computer Science, mathematics, or engineering with 2 to 5 years of related experience.

An advanced degree (MS or Ph.D.) with 10 years experience is highly desired.

Java programming skills, interest and experience in 2D & 3D graphics. Highly desired experience:

R&D interest in visualization, Human-Computer Interface design and development, and some artistic background (design, animation, etc.)

Hands-on experience with C/C++, Linux, and Alias Wavefront Maya is also highly desired.

Selected candidates will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.
