Full-time, Monday-Friday.
Responsibilities:
: The Hematology Supervisor is responsible for operation of the hematology department to include coagulation and urinalysis and oversight and evaluation of technical staff. They actively review released patient results, as well as, all quality control results. They review all policy and procedures in the department, research and implement new procedures, and ensure training of all new staff. They are the primary troubleshooter for the department and are the primary contact with other hospital staff, medical staff, and community members. They administer proficiency testing to all required staff and monitor timely completion of CAP surveys. The supervisor interacts with Materials Management and outside vendors for departmental supplies and submits budgetary requests to laboratory management. The supervisor is responsible to ensure all regulatory issues are complied with such as CAP and OSHA. They participate as a CAP inspector for assigned facilities. They meet weekly with lab management and fellow supervisors to review departmental operations.
Qualifications:
This position requires a Baccalaureate degree (BA or BS) in Medical Technology or clinically related biological science, successful examination and registration as a Medical Technologist with ASCP (American Society of Clinical Pathologists) or equivalent, and five years of experience as an MT in a clinical hospital laboratory. The incumbent should have the ability to read, write, implement, maintain, evaluate, analyze and understand procedures and quality control, train and evaluate staff and the ability to work independently and cooperatively as a team member. This position requires extensive knowledge of quality control analysis, instrument operation and maintenance, troubleshooting, problem solving, laboratory test result correlation using diagnosis, interdisciplinary values, age related criteria, etc., for patient care, department planning and superior communication, organizational and interpersonal skills.
