RN Med/Surg - Post Op/Ortho

Job Description
** This position includes working every other weekend**
The Post-Operative/Orthopedic Unit is a 41 bed unit. This dynamic unit provides outstanding nursing services to general surgery, orthopedic, vascular, plastic, bariatric and genitourinary surgical patients. A priority for the staff is pain management. Nurses provide the primary patient care with assistance from patient care techs and unit secretaries. This unit assists nurses in becoming very experienced in specific illnesses/surgical post-operative care.

·Shifts available: various, the unit is a 24 hour, seven day a week department.
·Shifts are scheduled depending on departments needs
·Shift differentials are available
·Weekend plans available
·Sign-on and relocation bonuses available for specific position.

POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direct supervision of the Supervisor, Nursing Unit, and according to hospital policies and procedures, the RN assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates nursing care for her/his assigned patients.


Skills/Requirements
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION:
Education Required:
Graduation from an NLN school of professional nursing.

Education Preferred:
Completion of or actively pursuing a BSN degree.

EXPERIENCE:
Preferred:
Experience as a Staff Nurse in an acute care setting.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Works autonomously, sets priorities and makes independent decisions of a complex nature. Interfaces directly with public, physicians, staff patients, administration and ancillary/ support department representatives. Written and verbal communication skills adequate for performance of the position. Maintains confidentiality of patient's medical records. Regular and predictable attendance is required. Please refer to Age Specific Categories Check List for expected patient populations that you may care for in this job/role. Must be able to demonstrate understanding of HCA's and St. David's "Patients First" safety initiative by strict compliance to all safety protocols and procedures.


LICENSES /CERTIFICATION:
Required:
Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in Texas.
Current certification from the American Heart Association as a
BLS course C or D provider.

Preferred:
Certification in area of specialty
