DIRECTOR, HUMAN RESOURCES (Manufacturing / Distribution)
Position Summary
Reporting jointly to the Acting Vice President, Human Resources and Chief Financial Officer, the Director, Human Resources is both a strategic and hands-on, engaged participant involved in virtually every aspect of our early stage, venture backed company - including such areas as: human resources, employee relations, organizational development and business initiatives. The HRD proactively engages with the executive team to ensure that ongoing, effective communication, meetings and events take place, throughout the organization and cross-functionally.
The HRD also serves as a business partner and advisor to the leadership team. This key member of the leadership team is responsible for building a professional, service-oriented Human Resources department and a scaleable, stage appropriate and enabling infrastructure that supports the organization's cultural and business goals. Strong analytical and technology skills are a must as is the willingness to do whatever needs to be done in what is currently a one-person function. Note, this function is strongly supported by the company's major investor and a member of that team with extensive HR experience in both venture backed companies at various stages of development and major corporations.
The position includes oversight of Administration and will include broad-based compliance management.
Primary Responsibilities
Provide first-line support for Company employees.
Implement and manage human resources key functions and programs, including but not limited to: staffing, training, compensation (salaries, commissions, bonuses and other incentives, equity and recognition programs), health & welfare benefits, employee relations, EEO/AA programs, communication (handbooks, meetings, newsletters, etc.), and compliance and recordkeeping.
Ensure compliance with federal, state and local governing bodies, including ongoing staffing and compliance of contract and temporary labor.
Develop and manage new employee orientation and integration processes that foster a positive, motivated and informed workforce.
Partner with Company leadership to implement the business strategy and to develop management and organizational effectiveness and leadership development strategies.
Partner with executive team and functional managers to identify, develop and implement training and development initiatives across the organization as well as for individual employees and functional groups.
Advise and provide training to department leaders, managers, supervisors, coordinators and staff in areas of Human Resources policies and procedures, employment law compliance, compensation, performance management and other workplace initiatives.
Analyze, develop, implement and maintain ongoing safety initiatives and organization-wide training in accordance with Federal and State compliance requirements as well as UHD safety standards and expectations
Develop and manage the performance review process and other performance management processes and feedback systems based on the needs of the organization.
Continuously update/enhance your knowledge of Human Resources best practices, employment law and industry trends and practices through attendance at professional seminars and events.
Contract with outside suppliers to provide services, such as: temporary employment services; relocation services; staffing consultants; out-placement services and other services as needed or required; establish strong relationship with key vendors.
Spearhead the Company's community outreach program, working with employees across the organization.
Perform other duties as needed or required.
Requirements
Bachelors degree required; major or emphasis in Human Resources Management or directly related discipline or equivalent a plus
Minimum of 7+ years directly related, demonstrated senior-level Human Resources Generalist experience and experience with managing both exempt and non-exempt employees required
Manufacturing experience helpful, but not essential; retail, merchandising or service-industry experience definitely a plus. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to interface at all levels of the organization (encompasses verbal, written, listening, presentation and facilitation)
Strong knowledge and experience implementing Human Resources employment law compliance practices and policies
Background in employee relations and dispute resolution; excellent interpersonal skills
Ability to:
Read, analyze, and interpret financial reports, legal documents and contracts
Respond to common inquiries or complaints from employees, leadership, customers, regulatory agencies and members of the business community, ensuring immediate response and effective resolution to such issues
Effectively present information to Company leadership and employees, public groups, and partners both internally and externally
Work in fast-paced, team-oriented environment
Build team through 1:1 engagement, training, coaching and mentoring
Impact and take responsibility for outcomes
Self-managed with equal ability to lead, support (and put forward others) and follow
Proven capability to take a programmatic approach to building HR functions coupled with knowledge and experience of all levels of processes, procedures, systems and tools within the Human Resources and Administration environments; particularly those which constitute "best practices"
Strong computer skills, with experience in Windows environment using MS Office (i.e. Word, Excel, and PowerPoint); intermediate level Excel skills and experience with HRIS required
Experience with electronic payroll software and payroll processing (PayChex preferred)
Flexible; able to adapt to changing priorities and rapid change with a sense of humor
Strong organizational and time management skills (timelines, schedules prioritizing and delegating)
Demonstrable passion and commitment to excellence
