NATURE OF WORK: To support and further the safety and ergonomics process established at Lear Montgomery, by strengthening the ergonomic/safety engineering program including worksite evaluations, control of safety/ergonomic hazards, environmental hazards and training of employees.


EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED: (The following duties are typical for this classification. However, any one position may not include all of the duties listed, nor do the examples cover all of the duties which may be performed.)





Directs the daily operations of the safety/environmental office and confers with local HR and Plant Manager concerning EHS activities.

Promotes safe working conditions by working extensively with all levels of management.

Teaches and provides safety and ergonomics awareness to the plant population.

Develops appropriate procedures, communications, training programs, etc. for all plant locations.

Manages an effective waste management process for all waste streams, including hazardous and non-hazardous wastes, recyclables, paper, etc.

Interfaces with the medical management team to minimize injuries and effectively administer return to work programs/processes for all plant locations.

Evaluates new materials and new equipment for acceptable safety requirements.

Administers the OSHA compliance programs, such as hazard communications, lockout/tag out, machine guarding, etc.

Acts as the Environmental Management Representative for the ISO14000 process, working with the plants to promote and implement the environmental management system (EMS).

Maintains pertinent documents as needed in an efficient manner.

Represents the plants during regulatory inspections and inquires.





KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:





Experience required in safety process development and Operator-Machine Interface (OMI) -design and quality related processes.

Good written and verbal communications skills.

Ability to work unsupervised in a multi-disciplinary team, reporting progress on tasks accurately.

Knowledge of the Kaizen process is desired.

Knowledge of Microsoft Suite software (Word, Excel, Access, Project) required.





SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:


Professional qualifications in Human Resources, Safety Engineering, Ergonomics, or Psychology.

Must be able to work overtime, either before or after the normal starting times and on weekends.





MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:


Bachelor's degree and three (3) to five (5) years practical experience and knowledge of automotive methods.
