Assistant Actuary

WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR?
An experienced actuary with strong leadership skills to direct all aspects of the Group Benefits Division's (GBD's) Disability valuation including responsibility for the valuation systems.
Desirable candidate will have strong knowledge of regulatory valuation standards for group life and health.
A partner for the disability business areas to provide financial expertise and insight as to how their products are running.
An individual who can work across departments and interact effectively with different teams within GBD.

Hartford Life's Group Benefits Division is the second largest carrier of group disability insurance and the fourth largest in Group Life in the United States. GBD offers Group long-term and short-term disability, life, accident, senior medical and stop loss insurance to employers, associations and affinity groups. WHAT ARE THE RESPONSIBILITIES OF THIS POSITION?
Reporting and earnings analysis for the Disability line of business on GAAP, STAT and TAX bases.
Be a business partner to the disability pricing area. Participate in the development and support of strategic and operating plans. Provide insights into how the disability block is running based on earnings analysis and recommend potential actions to be taken.
Recommend and implement reserve method/basis changes as appropriate.
Responsible for the annual Asset Adequacy Report for all of GBD valuation.
Be valuation's lead in the asset/liability matching process for all GBD products.
May be assigned to GBD task forces or committees as needed to represent GBD valuation

Qualifications:
Experienced FSA with strong leadership skills
5+ years group and/or valuation experience
Strategic thinker
Solid understanding of Stat and GAAP accounting/valuation requirements
Effective communication skills

WHAT IS THE COMPENSATION OPPORTUNITY?

At the Hartford, our compensation philosophy is simple: we pay competitive base salaries and reward performance. The base salary for this position ranges from $100,000 -120,000K. In addition, you will be eligible to participate in our comprehensive benefits program including Medical, Dental, Life and Disability insurance, and 401(k) plan, and Employee Stock Purchase plan and more.
