Job Description
Works directly with the Reinsurance Department, Home Office Underwriting, Home Office Claims, the Financial Department and Senior Management to provide technical and analytical actuarial expertise. Develops effective business solutions, which requires independent conceptual thinking, the application of advanced actuarial techniques, creativity, and sound business judgment. Communicates technical concepts to various audiences. RESPONSIBILITIES: · Compile, coordinate with line pricing and valuation actuaries, review and analyze data for use in all ceded reinsurance submissions to broker and marketplace. Interact with brokers and actuaries at reinsurers to facilitate data transfer and analysis for: o Umbrella, Property per risk, Property Catastrophe, D&O, Workers Comp, Fidelity lines of business · Perform independent analyses of current and proposed reinsurance structures · Provide pricing, cash flow, and other contract analyses as they arise · Provide risk transfer analyses on reinsurance contracts when needed · Prepare one non-traditional reinsurance treaty bordereau quarterly and review all other bordereaux · Prepare and coordinate department sections of outside presentations · Prepare and coordinate department responses to external parties (i.e. insurance departments, rating agencies) · Prepare schedules for Fairfax reporting · Review and update all parameters in the corporate funding systems · Assist with reserve reviews, as needed · Prepare summaries of reserve review position - statutory, U.S. GAAP, Canadian GAAP · Prepare roll-forward position for CFO each month · Assist in preparation of "Operations Analysis" presentations for the profit centers · Work within the department and Financial to keep system data as clean as possible and minimize topsides · Perform ad-hoc analyses, as needed
Required Skills
QUALIFICATIONS: · Five plus years actuarial experience · Close to Associate or ACAS · Bachelors degree or equivalent experience · Reinsurance experience a strong plus · Strong interpersonal communication - oral and written · Demonstrated superior technical competence in actuarial concepts/theory. · Ability to formulate responsible business solutions; demonstrated sound judgment. · Ability to work effectively and efficiently, independently as well as in a group · Strong Excel, Access and programming skills.
