The Property & Casualty (P&C) Operations include business insurance, specialty commercial and personal lines. This business had 13% written premium growth in ongoing businesses with strong growth in small business insurance and personal lines.
WHAT IS THE OPPORTUNITY?
Reporting to the Vice President, Claim Staff Legal, the Director, Secured Benefit Services (SBS), will be responsible for maximizing the use and effectiveness of structured settlements and safe haven accounts to achieve the best claim outcome for P&C Claim. He/She will be accountable for the day to day operations of P&C Claim's structured settlement and retained asset programs (RAP) which includes responsibility for driving, marketing, and managing all structured settlement investment products to be utilized by the 3,000+ P & C Claim staff. The Director will also be accountable for coordinating programs with Life and P&C company senior leaders, resolving complex issues and monitoring results associated with those programs. Additional functions include managing national broker/vendor and industry annuity provider relationships, developing and executing SBS training curriculum to claim adjusters, and maintaining program regulatory compliance. The Director has management accountability for one national large case negotiator.
WHAT ARE THE RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION?
This position is responsible for oversight of structured settlements through Hartford Life in excess of $150 million/year, maintaining a retained asset program with a $70million daily balance and administration of claim annuity files in excess of $800 million.
Accountabilities will include the following:
Operational Leadership
Strategic planning, development and execution of SBS operating plan
Development and maintenance of SBS and RAP scorecards for multiple constituents (Field, HO, SRS, Brokers, Staff Legal, and ad hoc reports)
Administration of Annuity policy ownership
Maintenance of SBS Website; SBS and RAP Coordinator lists
Enhanced development and use of RAP Allocation web-based assignment and tracking tool
Develop and execute SBS on-line training module
Program Leadership
Partner with CA&L, PL, WC, Property, SRS, and Hartford Life (HLI) leaders to create high performance structured settlement and RAP programs. Lead execution of programs through Field and HO leadership teams, Field Office Coordinators and Leaders, HLI Sales, and structured settlement brokers.
Develop and utilize partnerships with Claim Actuarial, MIS, Staff Legal, IT, Communications & HR to maximize effectiveness of programs.
Manage vendor relations for RAP program (Medibill, Bisys, Open Solutions, State Street bank, and HIG treasury) and assist in resolving annuitant claim issues (may include litigation).
Responsible for ensuring HLI and broker compliance
Become influential leader on enterprise-wide RAP steering committee.
Marketing
Builds strong HLI-Broker-P&C Claim relationships
Develops and maintain national broker relationships, resolves broker disputes and responds to inquiries
Delivers frequent presentations to Broker community and P&C Claim
Travels and visits P&C Claim offices and broker offices in conjunction with HLI sales force
Attends and participates in major Industry, Broker, HLI and P&C Claim leadership and annual meetings
Qualifications
BA/BS, advanced degree preferred
6+ years in financial services or insurance industry, specifically in sales or service a plus.
Investments experience or working knowledge of investment brokers strongly preferred.
Understanding of functional claim handling preferred.
Previous experience facilitating training helpful.
Strong project management skills.
