WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR?
The purpose of the Claim Supervisor position is to ensure that high level of functional expertise and policyholder service is practiced in claim adjudication within the team/unit. The Claim Supervisor aligns and manages the employees and other resources in order to achieve Total Loss Cost Management, Claim Quality, Policyholder Satisfaction, and Employer of Choice goals .
Requirements: (The Hartford requires certain testing for this position)
Bachelor degree or equivalent experience.
Minimum of 5 years experience handling auto claims.
Appropriate state licenses(s).
Professional designations a plus.
Previous supervisory experience is required (prefer experience in the insurance industry).
Organization skills, ability to prioritize and handle multiple projects is essential.
Must have a sense of urgency, meet deadlines, through effective decision making and problem solving.
Effective communications skills are required (oral, written, computer).
Excellent customer service skills are necessary along with the ability to create and maintain effective relationships with internal and external customers.
Ability to adapt to change and implement change initiatives is critical.
WHAT ARE THE RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION?
Ensure proper interpretation of the insurance contract and accurate application of the exposures of the claim to fulfill our contractual obligations to the policyholder.
Ensure proper investigation of all exposures and/or perils in the determination of cause, scope, and extent of damage and/or the determination of liability and extent of damages.
Ensure the timely and appropriate evaluation and reserving of all claims.
Ensure proper documentation of all claim activity to support the outcome of the claim file. Ensure compliance with all internal and external reporting requirements.
Establish mitigation and disposition strategies, including negotiation, ADR, declination or trial to achieve appropriate and cost effective claim outcomes.
Ensure proper use of allocated expenses to the claim file.
Ensure proper utilization of subrogation and salvage initiatives.
Ensure the quality of the assigned claim files through systematic reviews, providing functional guidance to the claim handlers on the proper investigation, evaluation, and disposition of the files through the use of evaluation tools, file strategy and claim analysis activities by claim handlers.
Develop and implement the center's operational fraud plan, including awareness/recognition, mandatory reporting, fraud training, and integration between CIT team members, special investigators, Fraud Operations, and PLCSC management.
Create high level of policyholder satisfaction by monitoring performance of staff, insuring compliance with standards for timeliness of contact, follow-up, payments, and Unfair Claim Settlement Practices Act.
Interview, select and evaluate staff for proper placement, productivity and performance. Coach, train, provide feedback, recommend training and development, inspire and motivate claim handlers to achieve greater performance and career development for staff. Plan for growth, change and succession.
Promote and encourage an inclusive and diverse work environment through leadership. Model professional and ethical leadership. Communicate the business vision, strategy and goals. Manage and implement change initiatives.
Use technology and other resources to achieve greater efficiency and better results.
Perform other related job duties as directed or needed.
