Industrial Reporter

DEPARTMENT: Occ. Medicine



SCHEDULE: Full-Time temporary; 40 hours per week; day shift; schedule days vary, hours may be from

8:30am to 5:00pm; expected length of employment is 90 days



EDUCATION: High School diploma



LICENSE / CERTIFICATION: Requires certified course in medical terminology or tested knowledge of

medical terminology



SKILLS TESTING: Typing 50 wpm



Position Summary:



Abstract and transcribe occupational injury reports (Doctor's First and Attending Physician) from

patient questionnaire, handwritten medical notes, and computer data base. Obtain authorizations for

treatment; telephone insurance carriers and employers for demographic info; update system data base.

Answers telephones, interview patients. Answers inquiries from patients, employers, insurance

carriers and other facilities regarding industrial cases. Job is temporary for 90 days.



QUALIFICATIONS:



Two years recent medical office experience. 1 year experience in ICD-9 coding within last 12 months

or tested knowledge of ICD-9 coding. Experience with automated systems/PC applications. Must have

excellent attendance records. Documented ability to maintain acceptable level of professional

conduct with physicians, patients, medical center staff and outside agencies. Demonstrated ability

to problem solve and handle multiple duties changing priorities without adverse effect on work

performance. Demonstrated ability to work with speed, accuracy and minimal supervision. Must be able

to work in a Labor/Management Partnership environment.



Knowledge Required:



Knowledge of Medical Terminology and Medical Transcription. Requires effective verbal and written

communication skills to give and take information related to Patient's injury/illness.



Knowledge Preferred:



Prefer knowledge of Calif. Worker's Comp Law. Familiarity with KFH/TPMG procedures and policies
