Department: Pricing
Schedule: Full-time regular, 40 hours/week; Monday through Friday
Education/Licensure/Certification: Bachelor's Degree in business administration, health care administration, or other quantitative field or equivalent work experience may substitute in lieu of degree. Masters Degree preferred.
Qualifications: A minimum of 2 years experience as an underwriter required. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Excellent problem solving skills, particularly financial and statistical. Ability to interpret client specific data to analyze underlying causes of significant changes in demographics and utilization. Strong understanding of trends in the insurance industry in California and the practices of competitive carriers. Ability to adjust conflicting priorities to meet or exceed established department turnaround goals. Must be able to work in a Labor/Management Partnership environment.
Duties: Reviews rate quotes of other members of the department. On an independent basis or with management support, participates in external meetings with clients or brokers in conjunction with sales or account management staff. Prepares complex calculations for determining prospective rates and renewals for statewide accounts. Present complex information to clients and brokers in a clear and concise manner both in writing and orally. Prepares financial data for RFPs. Participation in departmental special projects, as assigned. Represents the requirements of the Pricing Department with internal departments. Participates in the development of yearly rates and pricing policies for optional benefits. Develops and maintains rate quoting spreadsheets. Assist with updates to rating templates incorporating changes in rates or procedure. Train and advise field sales and account management staff on pricing policies, rating methodologies, and techniques for interpreting utilization/cost data. Consistently supports compliance and the Principles of Responsibility (Kaiser Permanente's Code of Conduct) by maintaining the privacy and confidentiality of information, protecting the assets of the organization, acting with ethics and integrity, reporting non compliance, and adhering to applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations, accreditation and licenser requirements (if applicable), and Kaiser Permanente's policies and procedures.
