The Yahoo! Media Group is establishing a new center of excellence in Santa Monica, CA and, with it, a top-notch User Experience Design (UED) team. We're staffing up to take a quantum leap forward in creating the next generation media experience. RESPONSIBILITIES
As Design Manager you will lead projects with a highly collaborative team of visual designers, interaction designers, researchers, prototypers, producers, and engineers. You should understand how these disciplines interrelate and contribute to the user-centered design process. You will have the opportunity to work on multiple projects spanning Media.

The role involves setting the design strategy and vision for products while overseeing the key deliverables and managing a design team. A passion for delivering quality user experiences is vital as is the ability to understand how user research and marketing data fits into driving the design requirements for the site.

- Identify design requirements, define project approach and scoping, and author the user experience strategy
- Set conceptual design and product direction based on field research and functional requirements, business goals, and company-wide strategic objectives.
- Work with user experience researchers to design and observe usability studies and translate the findings into design improvements
- Managing a large-scale project from planning to launch and keeping it on schedule
- Communicating with and across multidisciplinary teams throughout all phases of projects

QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Graphic Design, Human Factors, HCI, industrial design or related area
- Experience leading cross-functional design teams
- Experience managing and mentoring other designers
- 7+ years experience creating online products, applications, and large/complex web sites.
- Must have experience shipping products for large consumer audiences
- Must communicate clearly and effectively; have strong analytical and oral communication skills; excellent interpersonal and leadership skills and be able to collaborate actively with others in a cross-functional team
- Must have a solid understanding of user-centered design principles, analytical and conceptual design skills, and the ability to promote effective product development processes
- Must be organized and able to excel in a fast-paced and exciting environment
- Must have solid understanding of web technologies
- Experience designing complex products for a rich media environment a plus.
