We are seeking a senior search engine engineer to manage the
dynamic Yahoo! Search Marketing Sponsored Search engine. This individual would work on a team dedicated to engineering solutions and tools to improve application performance, monitoring, security, and stability. Engineers work in a cross-functional environment including development, networking, hosting systems, database, application servers and web serving. Knowledge and understanding of each layer, especially software design, is a critical factor for success.

Responsibilities include the following:

* Engineer a scalable production infrastructure that sustains Yahoo!
Search Marketing's high standards of availability and performance.
* Develop monitoring and instrumentation solutions to measure search engine performance and make performance tuning decisions.
* Develop automation tools for production management, configuration, and monitoring, for use by technical support teams.
* Work with support teams as an engineering resource to categorize, prioritize and resolve software application issues, dealing with all levels of Yahoo! Search Marketing's corporate and production infrastructure.

Basic Qualifications:

* Development skills with competence in OO Perl, C and C++.
* Knowledge of tuning and instrumenting Apache and mod_perl.
* Understanding of UDP, TCP, IP networking and troubleshooting, networking architecture and design.
* Knowledge of modern software systems engineering and experience in building and operating distributed component-based software solutions.
* Experience with data management, relational and object-oriented data systems.
* Self starter with the ability to thrive in a dynamic/fast paced environment.
* Strong technical research, investigation and troubleshooting skills.
* Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

* Minimum 5 years demonstrated software development and/or architecture experience.
* Experience with web services and architectures.
* Unix System administration experience or equivalent knowledge (Solaris, Linux, BSD).
* Experience with network programming and IPC.
* Oracle and MySQL experience.
* Consulting experience.
* Experience with successful implementations of complex, highly scalable and highly available systems in a multi-tier environment.
* Technical or business operations experience in a 24x7 environment.
