Do you have a passion for building innovative software products? Are you excited about developing scalable search software that can define the way people search for information? We are looking for a talented senior software engineer to join the Yahoo! Search team. You should have solid software development skills, experience building scalable system software, strong people skills and the enthusiasm to learn new things.
Your essential responsibilities will be to develop and enhance a large scale cluster, providing very large scale utility data services to internal Yahoo! customers. You will be dealing with data of the scale of the web, and analyses that drive web search into the future. You will need to:
* Be a primary member of the team building and supporting the huge data services.
Assemble proprietary and open source tools to run on the cluster.
* Develop tools for user interaction, facilitating use of the cluster.
* Drive development and enhancement of tools to support user requirements and extend the service utility.
* Interact with Yahoo! researchers, assisting them in their research and collecting and implementing enhancement requirements.
Basic Qualifications:
* Java and C/C++ development skills on Unix platforms.
* Experience building projects from components.
* Strong debugging and performance analysis skills.
* Familiarity with UI and Authentication.
Preferred Qualifications:
* A MS/PhD in CS/EE or equivalent, with 5+ years of software development experience.
* Experience with programming models for large clusters - PVM, MPI etc.
* Experience supporting researchers and users of clustered computation.
* A history of assembling solutions from open source and internal tools.
* Familiarity with operations, social and technical aspects of deploying large clusters.
* Computing tools such as ROCKS, OSCAR, Condor, Beowulf, LSF, PBS, Torque, Alexa etc.
* Familiarity with distributed file systems such as NDFS, GFS, Lustre.
