Description
The Yahoo! Communities team is looking for a highly motivated and experienced technical architect to work on the next generation of our products, such as Groups, Reputation, Identity, Profiles, and Personalization. Responsibilities include working with different teams to ensure consistent and scalable architecture across all products. The architect will also be expected to become familiar with, and contribute to, the communities aspect of other Yahoo! products such as Search, HotJobs, Mobile, etc. Finally, the architect may be required to represent Yahoo! in Standards Bodies and industry consortiums.

Required Skills:
- 10+ years experience designing and developing large, scalable, distributed software systems, with at least 3 years experience architecting them. Knowledge of and experience developing web applications is essential.
- MS/ME or equivalent, PhD desired.
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills, and excellent knowledge of advanced algorithms.
- Proven ability to develop novel software engineering solutions to complex design/implementation problems using strong investigation and technical evaluation skills.
- Deep and effective intuition regarding system behavior together with strong system analytical ability and practice.
- Excellent communication and influencing abilities.
- Excellent Object Oriented development experience, preferably with C++ and Java.
- Thorough understanding and practice in the use of object-oriented design patterns and data management systems (relational or object-oriented).
- UNIX development experience.
- Extensive knowledge of Internet technologies (HTTP, REST, SOAP, XML, Apache, PHP), database applications (MySQL, Oracle), and distributed systems.
- Experience working on integration projects that involve integrating platform components with various applications.

Desired Skills:
- C++, proficiency in an at least one of {Perl, PHP, Python}, Java and J2EE development experience a plus.
- Experience developing community products.
- History of innovation and out-of-the-box thinking.
- Good understanding of the operational aspects of an online service.
- Good understanding of internationalization, and experience working with International customers.
