Attorney General
Position Type: Full Time
The Attorney-General provides legal advice on a wide range of governmental issues affecting this Indian Nation, its tribal departments, economic enterprises and legislatively-created boards and commissions.
Key duties include review of complex business transactions, contracts and proposals and litigation. The right candidate will represent the Nation in tribal, state, and federal actions and interfaces with federal, state and other governmental agencies on behalf of the Nation. In addition, the Attorney General drafts ordinances, code revisions, resolutions and legal opinions and oversees work of Special Counsel, ensuring cost effective utilization and supervises law office staff, administers departmental budget as approved by Tribal Counsel.
Requirements
Only candidates with 7-10 + years experience as practicing attorney with extensive experience in Indian Law and familiarity with Indian culture will be considered. Must have experience in areas of Indian housing, environmental issues, ICWA, employment law, Indian gaming, contracts, taxation, jurisdictional issues, and economic development. Must have ability to manage law office staff and maintain department budget.
