Job Description:

RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Reviews assigned files for liability, completeness of file, availability of
necessary evidence and witnesses. Performs investigation when required to
accurately identify and locate defendants, witnesses, and insureds, and
determine defendants' financial status and ability to pay.. Reviews files with
supervising Attorney and client when necessary.
2. Drafts and files complaints on all assigned files with regard to statute
deadlines and local court requirements. Directs service of complaint and all
additional required documents; monitors timeliness and accuracy of service, and
files proof. Must keep track of local court rules for all 58 counties in
California for proper filing, service and calendaring of court deadlines
including court appearances of supervising Attorney on assigned files.
3. Files Request for Entry of Default in a timely manner; consults with insureds
or other witnesses as necessary and prepares required declarations and Judgment
forms for Default Judgments and files them; prepares and files requests for
extensions of time limitations when necessary to comply with local court rules.
4. Coordinates settlements between adverse parties, insurance companies,
attorneys and supervising Attorney and client; handles requests for extensions
of time to answer complaints, requests for informal discovery.
5. Performs complex legal research, drafts letters, pleadings, attends
continuing education classes with prior approval, develops and creates complex
computer templates and maintains existing templates, up-dates database and keeps
other team members informed of changes in court rules, laws, etc.


Understanding of legal terminology and legal references. Ability to analyze and
assess negligence and liability questions. Strong writing skills needed to
compose legal documents. Strong PC skills and familiarity with software
applications used for word processing (e.g. Microsoft Word for Windows,
WordPerfect.) Typing skills of 45 w.p.m. Familiarity with Westlaw for legal
research. Basic math skills to determine correct value of property and uninsured
motorist losses. Must have good command of the English language and be able to
communicate effectively in writing, on the telephone, and in person. Must have
good interpersonal skills and work well as part of a team.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATION:
Paralegal Certification Required

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS-
BA Degree and Paralegal experience is preferred
