Job Summary
The assistant store manager, softlines merchandising is the chief merchant of the softlines departments and
is primarily accountable for performance in the softlines departments, including customers, associates, sales and profitability.
- Directly responsible for leading a team of associates in fulfilling their respective roles in providing a Fast, In-Stock and Helpful customer experience
- Responsible for contributing to the overall financial performance of the store, including merchandise sales, credit and other
miscellaneous revenues, expense management and achievement of profitability goals.
- Drives appropriate behaviors in all store staff that result in customer satisfaction and performance results.
- Responsible for identifying local customer market demands and working with the store and district teams to make adjustments
to assortment and merchandising strategy to meet local customer needs
- Plans and executes merchandise & visual presentation standards
- Ensures the sales floor is Ready all Day
- Facilitates the efficient flow of merchandise to the sales floor
Responsibilities/Skills/Experience Requirements
Customer:
- Proactively leads Apparel, Home Fashions and Home Goods departments to ensure achievement of customer satisfaction goals
- Fulfills role of customer service manager on duty and acts as role model for all store associates to provide outstanding customer service
People:
- Develops a high-performance team by hiring, coaching, developing and managing performance of associates and hourly leads in the Apparel, Home Fashions and Home Goods departments to include both merchandise/customer assist and consultative selling associates
- Makes appropriate decisions on associate performance (to include termination of employment following appropriate approval process)
Sales:
- Proactively leads (e.g. planning for upcoming sales) the Apparel, Home Fashions and Home Goods departments to ensure achievement of sales goals; is accountable for measuring performance levels and conveying expectations to associates
- Takes ownership for planning and executing implementation of corporate merchandising programs and initiatives
Profit:
- Fully optimizes credit (e.g., share, AccountCare, new accounts) and other miscellaneous income opportunities (e.g., protection agreements, installation, gift card, home service leads) within the softlines departments and store
- Proactively leads the softlines departments to ensure achievement of profitability goals through management of margins (via communication to home office), expense and adherence to merchandise protection standards
