The Pittsburg & Midway Coal Mining Company (P&M) is now accepting online applications for the position of Long Wall Area Manager (0608-50012792) located in Berry, Alabama through September 22, 2006.
This positon manages the activities associated with the safety, production (longwall moves, roof support, ventilation, production, and removal of coal) and maintenance of the longwall operation at the North River Mine.

QUALIFICATIONS:
ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS:
Technical Direction
- Manages and organizes the longwall mining activities (longwall moves, roof support, ventilation, production and removal of coal) for all shifts to ensure optimum production levels of coal are produced to meet customer contract demands.
- Maintains continuity between LW and other Mine Departments, by communicating plans, recommendations, ideas, and other information. Is a member of the North River Management Team and assists in policy, mine wide pans and decisions.
- Maintains effective labor relations through consistent direction of the longwall operation workforce and guidance in resolving technical and manpower problems.
- Develops work schedules, budget, and control mechanisms to monitor longwall operation activities, including maintenance personnel, to ensure efficiency of longwall equipment.
- Coordinates with Technical Services Department in establishing and directing all longwall operation equipment maintenance plans and programs to ensure equipment is maintained, evaluated and improved as necessary.
- Maintains the safety and operating efficiency levels of equipment while assuring compliance with regulations and company policy.
- Evaluates equipment to provide maximum efficiency and safe operation.
- Evaluates and recommends purchase and replacement of capital equipment and vendor selection.
- Examines and evaluates changes, modifications and updates to equipment.
- Monitors and analyzes coal production data.
- Evaluates and coordinates with other underground production area managers and Technical Services Departments to gain recommendations and ideas to improve production rates.
Safety
- Assures the safety and well-being of longwall operation crews through the execution of the company's safety program to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations and company policy.
- Make frequent inspections of work areas to ensure compliance with mining plans, federal and state regulations and company policy.
- Provides on-the-job training to salaried supervisors and Coordinator on longwall equipment operation, ventilation and roof control plans.
- Champions the values of Incident and Injury Free Production and the Behavior Based Safety process.
- Oversee and participates in various weekly safety meetings.
- Attends post-inspection meetings to correct any violations or prevent recurrence.
Longwall Operation Administration
- Overall Management of the Longwall area including leadership of direct reports (Supervisors and Coordinator). Manage the overall long term strategic planning and objectives of the longwall Department while aligning with that of the Mine.
- Evaluates, proposes, and initiates changes to current processes, systems, and equipment to improve efficiencies and reduce costs in all areas of responsibility.
- Represents P&M management by resolving labor disputes at the field level as appropriate, while maintaining P&M's contractual rights.

SPECIAL SKILLS/REQUIREMENTS OR ADDITIONAL CONSIDERATIONS/INFORMATION:
- Bachelor's degree preferred.
- Will accept 10 years minimum longwall mining experience supervisory experience in lieu of academic preparation.
- Need identification of Alabama Mine Foreman Papers or ability to maintain them.
- Relocation benefits will be considered.

- EXPERIENCE 10 years experience in longwall coal mining. Alabama Mine Foreman papers required or at least have the ability to obtain them. Proficiency Microsoft Office products. Experience in pther mine software systems preferreed, JDE, SAP etc.
