Sr Principal Mfg Engineer
Job Description:
Senior Principle Project Engineering position requiring an engineering degree (post-graduate level preferred) and minimum of 15 years of direct experience in an aerospace or similar high-tech production environment, preferably in an engineering or operations management role.
Duties will involve direct leadership in multiple productions areas and project/technical tasks. This assignment requires daily interaction with management from multiple disciplines in a production environment (Production Control, Supply Chain Management, Operations Manager, etc.) and is within the Manufacturing and Test Engineering organization.
With direct interaction with senior management, this role is expected to be able to provide all aspects of direction for Operations, through all manufacturing or developmental manufacturing stages (including subcontractors and suppliers), for program or plan-site level activities. He/She must be capable to present strategies for program improvements and new business capture activities. He/She is expected to understand the functionality and system-level relationship for assigned hardware, and be able to influence product or program improvements. The role involves individual leadership towards Mission Assurance and Rick Management principles for Operations.
This role may involve leadership for large operating sections and departments for a program-level initiative, control of expenditures for manufacturing requirements such as materials, supplies, parts fabrication, assembly, special machinery or equipment, test equipment and tooling in the area of assignment. He/She must be able to represent the Operations organization in planning with associated engineering activities and project office management with reference to manpower, funding and schedule requirements and is responsible for assuring that contractual items of hardware are completed within funding and schedule limitations. Acts as a consultant to engineering departments on advanced manufacturing techniques and their application to assigned projects. May design, sketch, or order prints to develop new parts and assemblies.
Assignments will relate to value stream flow analysis and improvement, capacity planning, producibility enhancement, manufacturing process control and performance monitoring, customer and supplier interface, product cost improvement, disposition of discrepant hardware items and leading corrective action preventing reoccurrence, translating engineering design requirements into formal manufacturing process documentation, developing tooling concepts, providing engineering liaison to factory supervision and production teams, creating and overseeing projects using risk management techniques, planning and managing the incorporation of design changes and leading cost reduction and process improvement initiatives. Responsible for product quality, assuring compliance of assigned product/project to the customer's expectations as defined in the contract and as reflected in RMC directive documents, in the most cost effective manner. This position involves direct support of manufacturing activities and requires spending significant amounts of time in and around factory areas. Second shift assignment may be a requirement.
Assignments may be focused on internal manufacturing or may relate specifically to supplier and subcontractor technical support.
The ideal candidate will possess the skills and experience necessary to perform in both technical and manufacturing leadership roles. Technical competence includes product technologies, such as electro-optical, electro-mechanical, circuit cards, metallic and non-metallic structures, as well as production technologies, such as equipment-driven processes, material handling practices, statistical process control, Lean principles, and fabrication methods for assigned component or subassemblies. Frequent use and application of technical standards, principles, concepts and techniques is required. Manufacturing leadership relates to an ability to plan, align, and execute a multi-disciplined team, to include suppliers, to achieve a business objective.
The qualified candidate must understand the general workings of a shop floor control management system for controlling hardware pedigrees and recording all build, test and inspection records. Direct experience with performing hardware First Article Inspections, conducting work instruction (assembly planning) audits, and supervising hardware prove-ins is desired.
Ability to achieve results directly relates to program delivery schedules, company financial performance, product quality and reliability, and other aspects of meeting contractual requirements.
The qualified candidate must possess demonstrated experience involving technical problem solving, working effectively under no supervision and with direct interaction with senior management, consistently bringing sound organizational skills, and the ability to communicate effectively, both interpersonally and via presentations. He/She must demonstrate a plant-site wide Operations understanding, and must be able to predict and create plans and activities to guide issues of high scope and complexity. This position requires assertive, fluid, and individual leadership and broad accountability for business and organizational events. It is expected that a person operating at this level would be involved or in leadership of plant-site or company-wide initiatives.

Required Education:
This position requires a BS degree or higher from an ABET accredited engineering curriculum in a field such as Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering.
