Blue Shield is seeking 2 Product Strategy, Research & Development Managers in our San Francisco corporate headquarters.

Position reports to the Director of Product Strategy, R&D.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Assists with the generation and analysis of new product ideas. This includes cross-functional ideation, concept analysis, initial business case, financial analysis and evaluation metrics. Support presentation to executive leadership.

Accountable for creating and managing medium to high complexity* enterprise-wide implementation teams or a discrete subteam of a highly complex enterprise-wide implementation team for new product implementation. (*Complexity determined by dollar amount of project, size of team, number of IT systems affected, strategic importance of initiative, number and complexity of vendor relationships, speed/timing.)

Accountable for developing business cases and financial analysis and for achieving business case results and outcomes.

Provides information and thorough analysis on potential new products to execute company strategy. On occasion works directly with senior executives.

Maintains relationships with key functional area leaders (e.g., maintains resource plans across the company that will support yearly work effort)

Supports development/oversight of third-party relationships, including contract development/execution, identification of performance metrics, and implementation of performance tracking systems.

Budget accountability for an initiative or a discrete part of a highly complex new product initiative. Has management responsibility for assigned staff when appropriate (i.e., performance reviews) in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.

Monitors on-going performance and communicates expectations and results.

Provides developmental and training opportunities for team members.

Identifies staffing needs and objectives.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree and seven years of relevant experience, including managerial level experience in marketing, product management or health care or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Excellent interpersonal and verbal/written communication skills.

Ability to effectively present highly complex information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

Demonstrated leadership, project management, program evaluation and consulting skills and ability to interact with all levels including senior management and influence decision-making.

Skill in planning, organizing, leading and effectively managing projects or team members in the performance of their duties.
Prefer MBA and three years of relevant experience

Strong quantitative analysis and modeling skills and ability to interpret complex data and create business insights

Familiarity with standard business tools including Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Access

Excellent communication, facilitation, and presentation skills

Ability to manage cross-functional teams

Previous experience with strategy, product research and development, and portfolio management preferred

Comfort with managing and leading under uncertainty
