Position Summary:
As directed by the Registered Dietitian (RD), under direct supervision, maintain office and patient
services operations for the Food and Nutritional Services Department. Performs essential clerical
duties for clinical nutrition care and food service. Collects, maintains, and communicates data
relative to patient's dietary requirements. Regularly and routinely direct and check the work of
three (3) or more Nutrition Aides and/or Nutrition Clerks.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
- Two years' experience in a nutrition department/diet office in an acute care or skilled nursing
facility. ** Should the employer be unable to fill this position with an internal applicant, the
employer may add to the posting requirement ". . . AA or other college degree or college student
with Nutrition major".
- Knowledge of therapeutic diets preferred.
- Data entry skills utilizing Word or Excell database systems.
- Ability to read and comprehend instructions; draft short correspondence. Ability to effectively
present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other
individuals with the organization.
- Must be willing to work in a Labor Management Partnership environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Reviews, corrects and checks status of patients' menus, nourishment's, tube feeding, and test meals
for compliance with current prescribed diet order, food preferences, nutritional adequacy, age
specific needs, cultural background and religious practice, potential food-drug interactions,
additions and deletions per protocol as directed by the RD. Collates menus for tray-line assembly.
Places daily order to commissary.
Collects and maintains statistical information and/or financial records. Answers telephone and
follows up on requests. Inputs data into computer for department procedures, general correspondence
and necessary reports. Records requests, changes or cancellations to meeting calendar. Tallies
menus, individual and case products for patient menu and catering foods. Orders food, menus,
disposable and office supplies. Receives and checks deliveries for accuracy
from vendors. Signs invoices.
Visits and assists patients in completing menus respecting patients' diet restrictions, age,
allergies and preferences.
Informs or suggests alternatives to patient's food choices to meet satisfaction needs. Assists
health plan members in the purchase of Heart Cuisine meals.
Monitors the accuracy of the tray related to the MNT or diet order according to diet manual. Checks
for quality of product and is responsible for corrections and quality follow-up with
manager/supervisor, staff, or vendor.
Collects pertinent patient information, including discharges. Transfers diet changes and food
preferences to be included at the time of diet entry. Organizes and maintains records of diet orders
and patient information for all patients.
Schedules staff as necessary. Assists in training new employees as necessary.
Perform other related duties as required.
