Mervyns has a well-earned reputation for its extensive selection of national and private-label fashions and housewares.POSITION SUMMARY:The Assistant Manager manages, plans and coordinates the general merchandising areas in the store to maximize sales and profits, achieve expense goals, maintains customer service standards and high team morale. Serves as a Store Manager in absence of the Store Manager. Supervises two to three Department Supervisors in the store. Performs special projects and assignments as directed by and in the absence of the Store Manager. POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

Team Leadership

Selects and manages a group of 25 - 40 hourly associates.
Monitors performance, gives feedback and ensures timely delivery of performance reviews for the team.
Manages associates to our performance standards and provides coaching for improvement when necessary.
Facilitates the professional development/growth of associates whenever necessary.
Supports, participates in and contributes to civic and community functions when appropriate.
Responsible for floor leadership during the hours of operation as well as opening and closing the store on assigned days.

Driving sales through Customer Service and Merchandising

Manages 2-3 departments with volume ranging from $2-$9 million.
Manages the merchandising and signing of the selling floor.
Manages the appropriate visual displays within their departments.
Ensures great Customer Service by interacting with Customers and associates on the selling floor.
Strives to achieve sales goals and maintain budget controls in all merchandising areas of responsibility.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
BA or BS degree required or equivalent Mervyns experience.
1-2 years previous retail management experience preferred.
Excellent leadership skills.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
