Assistant Store Manager

Assistant Store ManagerMervyns LLC, headquartered in the San Francisco Bay Area, is a family-friendly promotional neighborhood department store offering trend-right fashions and home decor for the entire family at affordable prices. Mervyns has a well-earned reputation for its extensive selection of national and private-label fashions and housewares.POSITION SUMMARY:
Directs, plans and coordinates the general merchandising of the store in order to maximize sales and profits, achieve expense goals, maintain customer standards and high team morale.Serves as Store Manager in the SM's absence. Supervises two to three Assistant Managers in the store.Performs special projects and assignments in the SM's absence. Performs special projects andassignments as directed by the SM or District Manager. POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provides direction to Assistant Managers to ensure company direction is met.
Strategize and create business plans, in conjunction with Store Managers and Assistant Managers to maximize sales and profits for areas of responsibility.
Oversees and directs merchandise presentation to maximize sales and minimize shortage.
Leads and directs customer service program within the store, and personally takes action to satisfy customer.
Directs customer standards, including the handling of exchanges, refunds, adjustments and complaints.
Develops Assistant Managers skills and knowledge through training, coaching, feedback and follow-up.
Manages Assistant Managers performance to standard, addresses corrective action process in a timely manner.
Supports, participates in, and contributes to civic and community functions when appropriate to project a positive image in the community.
Ensures merchandise is available to the customer by reviewing stock levels of stockroom and merchandise presentation.
Ensures safe working conditions are met for the associates and customers.POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

BA or BS degree in relevant field, e.g. business, Communications, human resources, industrial relations, psychology, and labor relations.
Minimum of seven to ten years retail experience, with two to four years Retail Management experience preferred.
Highly developed communications skills (written, verbal, presentation).
Highly developed interpersonal and supervisory skills.
Highly developed strategic thinking skills.
Outstanding conflict management skills.
Excellent organizational skills.
Ability to assess skills and develop self and others.BENEFITS:
