Manager, Internet & Databases Development

Strong IT Mgr (3yrs as mgr) with hvy experience in Database development (5yrs+)


One of our clients has retained us to find a Manager, Internet , Operations, and Databases for their Minneapolis, MN location.

This is a very exciting role with a dynamic, financially stable, growing and prestigious organization.

The overall responsibility for this position is to manage the operations staff and provide hands-on support for this company's fast paced, dynamic environment. This includes overseeing the management of servers, networks, security and co-location environments for the entire line of business and providing service and support to application systems to insure 100% uptime.

The specific responsibilities for the Manager, IT Operations/Database will include:



Ensure that the IT Operations staff is well-coordinated on assigned projects in terms of communications with the company, scheduling, and setting/meeting expectations. Set clear objectives, evaluate progress against objectives, and instill performance-oriented culture with focus on accountability.

Develop policies and procedures that govern database management, application availability and network operations; ensure proper implementation utilizing industry best practices.

Provide for monitoring, emergency response, and backups for high-availability systems to minimize risk and magnitude of outage or data loss.

Monitor database efficiency and supervise the implementation of improvements.

Ensure customer expectations are managed and exceeded.

Participate as an active member of the technology management team.

Stay up-to-date on new technologies and the industry in general, as well as system/security trends specifically, as relevant to IT operations.
The ideal candidate for this role will have the following skills and attributes:



College degree, preferably a B.S. in Engineering, Computer Science or a related field.

5+ years technical experience in database development and internet application development.

3+ years managerial (mgr or supv) experience in Information Technology.

Excellent organizational, leadership, and decision-making skills.

Experience in operating a 24/7 high-availability IT infrastructure.

Excellent knowledge of database administration, programming and systems analysis procedures.

Excellent understanding of Microsoft technologies, including Windows 2003 Server, SQL Server and Internet Information

Excellent communications, writing and editing skills needed to transfer information to individuals involved in the development process.

Experience in operations supervision, with the ability to solve technical and operations problems, showing a high level of customer service and project management skills.

Familiarity and experience with one or more formal techniques used in design and development of Internet applications including, but not limited to Web Technologies (WebSphere, Microsoft, J2EE), Database (SQL, Oracle, SQL Server, Access, XML,MySQL and PostgreSQL), Programming Languages (Microsoft VB, Java, C/C++, VB Script, JavaScript, HTML,Perl,TSQL,PSQL).

Strong interest in and knowledge of Open Source technologies, including Linux, Apache, DNS/BIND, sendmail, and popular Open Source tools.
