POSITION SUMMARY: The Hosting DBA is responsible for implementing, managing and maintaining an Oracle environment in a highly available environment. This position is also responsible for maintaining hardware, operating systems and applications. Persons in this position will mentor junior DBAs and cross-train technical staff.








ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES


- Answer and resolve issues relating to Oracle servers and database instances.


- Manage JBoss and Documentum instances.


- Monitoring of network, server, OS, and application logs


- Configure/troubleshoot various network access methods


- Strong attention to detail, consistent follow-through and ability to respond to urgent requests


- Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Must be able to communicate technical information to non-technical users


- Load/reload/upgrade servers and network resources with operating systems, applications, firmware


- Research, plan and accomplish server and networking projects


- Effective interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently or as part of a team


- Superior hardware and software troubleshooting ability


- Maintain and report on system, network and connectivity call statistics and metrics


- Perform risk, software, hardware and security audits and update documentation


- Produce process and procedure documentation


- Other duties as directed by management


- Able to work hours outside the normal business hours on occasion








QUALIFICATIONS


EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:


BS degree with an emphasis in CS/MIS/CIS highly desirable.





REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE: Must have the technical aptitude to learn, apply and solve technological solutions and/or challenges. Must be willing to spend the time necessary to achieve and maintain a high level of technical proficiency.





EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:


- Oracle 10g Certified


- Experience with MySQL


- 6+ months experience with 10g


- Experience with Oracle ASM a strong plus


- Experience with Data Guard/Standby Database


- Experience with RAC


- Experience with Solaris 9/10


- Exposure to Solaris Disk Suite a strong plus


- Programming experience including PL/SQL, SQL, SQL*PLUS, ksh, C, etc.


- Production environment experience of at least 2 years supporting multiple 7x24 database systems


- Experience working within strong change management systems as they apply to ALL database changes


- Proven experience leading and directing junior DBAs to facilitate the maintenance and stability of supported databases


- Extensive Oracle patch/Upgrade experience in a production environment


- Experience supporting ASP production database systems in a hosted environment a plus


- Must have working knowledge of server hardware, software and networking components


- Experience working with customers handling customer problems and requests on the phone and face-to-face with a high degree of professionalism
